As a pulmonary physician, Dr. Desai consults on pulmonary disease and sleep medicine. He evaluates and treats pulmonary diseases and specializes in sleep disorders, and he offers pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in his office. His office also schedules patients for in-lab sleep studies (PSG) and home sleep testing (HST).
Dr. Desai also supervises hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) at the Wound Center of the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital (WBGH). Additionally, he is affiliated with long-term acute treatment (LTAC) hospitals, such as Post-Acute Medical (PAM) Hospital Wilkes-Barre, where he is the Director of Pulmonary Medicine.
Education
Dr. Desai attended Baroda Medical College and The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and graduated in the Class of 1989. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary medicine at the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Dr. Desai has been an active staff pulmonary physician at the WBGH since 2003, serving as the Pulmonary Section Chief from 2010–2012, and has been a pulmonary physician at the VAMC since 1999. Additionally, Dr. Desai is the Medical Director of Pulmonary Services at Post-Acute Medical (PAM) Hospital Wilkes-Barre and serves as the Director of Pulmonary Medicine at John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitation and Highland Manor Nursing Home. He is also a staff pulmonary physician at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Wilkes-Barre.

Dr. Desai is involved in academics in his community. He has been the Medical Director and a Professor of Respiratory Therapy at Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) since 2011, is a Voluntary Clinical Faculty Member at The Commonwealth Medical College (TCMC), and also serves to train future doctors by volunteering as a faculty member in the Wyoming Valley Family Practice Medicine Residency Program.

Susan Smith, RRT and RPFT
Susan Smith is both a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Registered Pulmonary Function Therapist (RPFT).
She received an Associates Degree in 1984 from Luzerne County Community College. Her experience includes time in the home health field and at Special Care Hospital (formerly Nanticoke State Hospital), Regional Hospital of Scranton (formerly Mercy Hospital), and the VAMC.
Susan has been a member of Dr. Desai's office staff since February 2007.

The proximity of Dr. Desai's office to the WBGH gives him the added advantage of easy availability for critically-ill patients. His office building is located right across from the WBGH, which allows easy access for the patient to the WBGH's radiology and labs.
